As mentioned on my January 13th post, I will be giving step by step instructions for some of the ideas I came up with using Gefen “Wonder Melts” for the Zichron Shlomo Refuah Foodfest which took place this past Sunday in New York. In today’s post I will be featuring Chocolate Covered Oreo Cookies.Originally, I wasn’t planning to post this simple idea, but when I saw how many people were quite surprised to see that this chocolate mold even existed, I decided to post this. These cookies are pretty and unique enough to be included on your sweet table or even used as party favors. Additionally, they make a great idea for Mishloach Manos.
- cookie candy mold (the one that I used was purchased at Michaels). Molds are available in a variety of themes.
- Gefen Wonder Melts*
- Oreo cookies
- double boiler, microwave or chocolate melting pot
- flat metal spatula
*I made the apple green color by mixing 1 package of yellow with 20 green Wonder Melts pieces)
- Begin by melting your chocolate in a double boiler, microwave or a melting pot.(I purchased melting pots to use at the show.It was such a pleasure using them.I intended to use them at the show only, but I decided to use them at home as well.I often end up burning the chocolate in the microwave and with a double boiler, there is always that chance of getting water in the chocolate. With the melting pot,it can sit on the counter for hours keeping the chocolate melted and ready to use.)
- If you would like to accent your mold with different colors, use a thin paint brush to "paint" in the colors.Allow to dry.
3.Fill about one third of the mold, with melted Wonder Melts.
4.Place Oreo cookie on top of melted Wonder Melts.
5.Fill remaining space of the mold with melted Wonder Melts.(I like to use a metal spatula to smooth out the chocolate).
6.Place mold in the freezer till firm. Remove from mold.
